Hi all, Had a few hours spare today and having browsed the Internet and drooling over some super rigged out kayaks I decided to create a box for my Malibu 2. It appears that the way to go is to make your own so that is what I did. I got a box from Home base for £1.99 and some tubing for £1.45. A few cable ties and a hacksaw later it was taking shape. Having routed through my fishing shed I found an old tackle bag with clips on it so I attached it inside the box. Then I remembered a cycling cool bag that I got from Aldi a few years ago, that attaches to your handlebars with straps. These straps attach it to the tackle bag so that both are secure in the box if I capsize. So there it is, a rod and net holder, a tackle box and a bait box, for less than £5. All secure as one unit. All I need do now is secure it to my Malibu 2, any suggestions?, I think bungee cord may not be substantial enough? If the crate still folds you could actually thread the bungee through the base of the crate, using a similar system to the AnglersAfloat Project Malibu Hatch Bungee, you may need to make a couple of nicks in the ends of the crate to accommodate the bungee but should be secure enough. SM

Thanks for the advice SM, I have just been and had a look at your site. I was worried that bungee cord would not be adequate but having seen some photos maybe its OK. Here is one secured with bungee cord..... This one appears to be secured with a more substantial strap. When I get time I will see how it fits with my seat and straps in situ and I will decide how to secure it then. Cheers for now.

Right then, Here we are... As you can see the box is a perfect fit. SM has suggested I use bungee cord through the box, I can utilize the rear strap attachments with the seat, or I could add eyelets either side and use bungee cord x 2, over the top of the box. Or I could use a nylon strap secured either side of the box with a clip in the middle? Having seen the box in situ what would you do??

Decided to make the best of the bad weather and get my own box sorted. Thanks for the advice given here and apologies for swiping your good ideas. Anyway I started by stealing my wife's laundry basket.... Next was a trip to stermat for some pipe insulation, cable ties, thermos flask and insulated thermos food bag. Everything is tied down including the cheap tackle box (with cable ties through the base of the box and basket) also bought previously from stermat. The basket fits perfectly on the Scrambler XL. I do not need rod holders since already fitted... Tied a whistle on as well just in case. As you can see from the deliberate capsize reconstuction everything is secure... So roll on some nice weather...I hear there's codling in the Menai Straits ;D

Hi All, I said watch this space regarding fixing my box to the yak. Well I opted for bungee cord in the end, and attached them to stainless steel Lacing eyes, 45p each from Dickie's. This way I can convert my yak back to a 2 seater with ease. I did have reservations using steel eyes but I thought about it and decided they would be OK as they were not sharp or anything. I got some plastic bungee clips for 45p also from Dickie's, all you do is thread the cord through and tie a big knot, this then holds it in place. I could probably make it more secure if I threaded the cord through the basket! I also added a cleat to the rear end, I thought it might come in handy, you never know? Towing, fixing to, Live bait box? etc.

Hughesey, should your basket with all your tackle in becomes separated from the boat will the pipe insulation around the top of the basket aid buoyancy till you can pick it up out of the water thus saving you gear.
john ;D ;D ;D
might be worth a dry run so to speak.

For anybody looking for a tankwell crate. i looked for ages for a good quality plastic crate without success and ended up going down a different route. Was in PC World today and they are selling the sturdiest plastic trays you'll probably find anywhere in a number of different sizes. Worth a look.
