I really want to fit a couple of scotty rod holders in a forward position. Just have the two flush mounted behind the seat at the moment. Any advise on which type, extensions and mounts? Where to buy for the best price? Any usefull links or article would be appreciated.

Hi Mate, I have just ordered one of these... I have also ordered an extra flush mount base, so that I have an extra attachment point on both sides of my yak. Flush Mount Base...£5.99 Rod 2000 Rod Holder with Flush Mount ...£18.98 Delivery...£3.95 Not bad, considering they are made in the USA and are supposedly the best on the market with lifetime guarantee??? I got them from here........ www.ram-mount-uk.com/ram-114-f.htmwww.ram-mount-uk.com/ram-114-fm.htmIf you click on the Adobe Acrobat PDF thing you will get a full spec of this product. Cheers for now.

Hi All, Just took delivery of the above items, 1 rod holder and 2 flush mountings. I was pleased with the quality of the product as they seem very robust and sturdy. My intension was to fit a flush mount for the holder on both gunwales either side of the yak, but on the Malibu 2 the gunwales were too narrow I then took some time to think where I was going to put them, as space is limited remembering that I might need to convert back to a 2 seater for the kids. I eventually found a spot and decided that 1 flush mount would have been enough, but I fitted both anyway as the mount can hold a variety of equipment from mobiles to laptops see the RAM website! www.ram-mount-uk.com/index.htmI then had a brain wave, I had bought a few stainless Lacing eyes from Dickie's and they looked like the right size to marry to the flush mounts, this would enable extra attachment points for equipment such as paddle leash and rod leash. They fitted perfect........... This is where I fitted the pair of mounts Not a bad place considering I suppose? Easy to reach, and good for trolling a plug. The rod holder is fully adjustable, 360x360 and locked in place with a screw fixture. Looking good, and getting closer to proper fishing! You can see from the last picture that the flush mounts were too wide for the gunwales. By the way, Thats not my living room its my fishing shed!

Thanks SM, The eyelets are called Lacing eyes, and I think that they are probably used on a mast or something, but being stainless steel I thought that I could probably make use of them and at 45p can't go wrong! I got them from a local chandlers, they come in various sizes, but they did need a gentle tap from a hammer to narrow them slightly. I guess that forums like this and yours help people get the most out of their kayaks? Cheers for now.
