Over the last few years their has been much discussion about anchors the problems we have are we need weight to hold the anchor but if it gets stuck we have a problem to free the stuck anchor and because of the leverage problem in a kayak this can be a very difficult job to do the usual technique to free a stuck anchor means to paddle up tide and hope it pulls free the way it went in but in practice you will only save about 1 in 4 anchors this way so about 2 years ago I started to play with anchor shapes and I think I have now found a better shape for our kayak anchors I have used all sorts of contraptions connected to grapnel anchors but most only worked on limited times .
So the shape I settled for is a T shape all I used was some scrap square profile bar I welded the joint and filled the bottom section of the T with lead and added a couple of rake bars to help in soft ground I have been using it all year so far and I have not had it stuck yet I even had three kayaks attached to it while fishing and it still held and I have found when you want to retrieve it just comes away easily with a small tug there has been much discussion about the anchor problem in the past and I hope we have found a solution at last.
I haven’t lost an anchor all year which is pretty spectacular as I started to buy grapnel anchors in 10s last year .in the photos the one shown has not been painted this is the first T shape I made and I gave it a coat of paint to prolong its life I just bought a new can of marine primer so am in the process of stripping and repainting it .
