The BCU 3 star sea has undergone a major revison to allow paddlers to be assessed using a sit-on-top kayak or a closed cockpit kayak. I'd raised this issue with some of the technical committee at the Canoe expo. Some sit on top paddlers on my courses were saying they felt excluded from the British Canoe union scheme because they did not want to paddle closed cockpit kayaks. I know this was a big issue with some of the open canoe fraternity on the Song of the paddle website. This may encourage more sit on top paddlers to develop their skills and feel part of the paddlesport scene. It certainly reflects an awareness by the BCU of the growth of this popular branch of paddlesport -though it has taken a while for them to recognise this-. Now when will this apply to the 4 star as well? This revision is dated April 08 so bin your old 3 star notes and guidelines. i'll be running a few courses as a result of this. www.bcu.org.uk/bcu/CoachingItemPDFs/upload_2110.pdf
