Hi guys
What size/weight of anchor do you use? I was thinking about getting a 1.5 kg folding anchor would this be suitable?
Thanks Gwolyn

that will be fine, its what most of us use, you will need about a meter of chain and a small 'D' shackle. Attach the chain to the bottom of the anchor using the 'D' shackle, run the chain up the anchor shaft and use a small cable tie to secure it to the top anchor eye, that creates a weak link if your anchor gets snagged, make sure its weak enough to snap with a good pull, but strong enough to hold you at anchor. zebrakayak.proboards81.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1155508942Martin

Hi Martin
Thanks for that info. Its a lot more complex than I thought. But the instructions you have given seem easy to follow.
Thanks Gwolyn

Have a look at a Sand Anchor - I think it's what Jet skiers use to moor their cursed craft when they are not showing off. I used one at a NWKF meet off Anglesey and it worked a treat in pretty windy conditions and a big yak (Malibu 2). Just half fill it with sand/pebbles from the shore, make sure it's tied on and chuck it over the side. No chains or spikes to damage you or your yak.... or to snag.

That's right. I paid about £20 for what in effect is a plazzy bag and a bit of rope !

I use a rope bag filled with stones and if on the beach (no pebbles, etc) then I have a pre-made sleeve (knotted at one end and connectio at other) from a water proof jacket to fill with sand. The rope bag (horse nose bag thingy) can be a wee bit bulky but then again I usually travel light (fly fishing) and do not have a box/crate in the back, etc. so space is not really an issue for me.
