Hello everybody, I am pretty much a novice in terms of fishing from a kayak, hope to join one of the meets. I would appreciate advice on what sort of 12v battery to fit to my Malibu 2XL to run a Garmin fishfinder. I know it needs to be at least 4.2Ah, but I have had conflicting advice about gel batteries (expensive), sealed lead acid, to buy a caravan/ motorbike/golf caddy type battery. I already have a 12v car battery charger, and would prefer a battery that could be charged from this, at least for the time being, maybe even just buy a cheap (but big and heavy) car or motorbike battery for the time being. Regards Paul Macca

Hi Paul. You dont need a massive battery. Maplins do a couple at a reasonable price. I have a garmin 140 and my battery lasts a full day, it only measures 180mm x 60mm x 35m. Sealed maintainance free and cost me less than £10. Hope this helps. Steve

Paul, don't know if you live in North Wales, there is a place in Bodelwyddan called manbats (look em up in the phone book) They sold me a sealed 12 volt 7ah battery for £8 + vat. And I paid about the same for a charger in Maplins.

Hi Hoops. This type of battery will run your fish finder. The only bits you should need will be - Silicone sealer to fit the transducer, spade clips for the terminals and a waterproof battery box. search the modification and rigging section, you should find all the information you need. Steve
