I know it's not Wales but it's my first smuts

I have always headed west to Wales for my sea fishing from the yak, totally ignoring my nearest coastline...Lincolnshire. God knows why, perhaps it is my total dread of the Skegness commercialism.
However....whilst browsing I suddenly found they have a good run of smoothies of the Sutton to Mablethorpe area.
Well after a lot of planning I set myself up to get out there last Tuesday. Then...severe pains in left calf entailed an appointment with GP...you guessed it only time available Tuesday morning...after a quick check he sent me to DVT clinic at hospital for scan all clear thankfully BUT trip cancelled.
Rearranged for this Tuesday. However over the weekend all reports showed that the smuts had moved on and people were blanking!!
Magic Seaweed gave a forecast of 18mph offshore winds so I was getting a bit dubious about a 200 mile trip to be blown off or blank.
So off I set, a box of squid from fish market and the hope of getting some peelers locally.
Peelers? Hmm!! Got some 'medium' frozens at 75p each! High tide was only 90 mins away so I could not shop around, and I could only get 6!!
Made my way to Huttoft Car Terrace, my planned launch site.
The surf was looking perfect.
So out I paddled, at about half a mile I was getting 30ft so I thought I would drop anchor. Even though there was a bit of a swell that far out the wind was whipping up some white horses.
Well dropped two lines down each with peeler.
After 10 mins the ratchet screamed on right hand reel after a few minutes this little beauty came over the side.
My first ever smoothie. YES!!!
The swell seemed to be growing by the minute now and I was swinging from side to side on the anchor so bite detection was a problem.
Suddenly then my left hand rod bent double...fish on...
This one really gave a good account of itself.
Now things were really getting hairy out there so as I was solo I thought I had better move inshore. Against an increasing wind it was real hard work to make matters worse the tide had turned too. Lack of fitness was showing.
Unfortunately with the lack of distance came lack of depth and lack of fish. But hey safety must come first. So after 3 hours I decided to be happy with the two.
Back on shore I spoke with 5 guys who had been fishing and no one had had a bite so I felt I had done ok.
Hang on...i have just reviewed my pix...I wasn't sure at the time but could I have got a common and a starry. I didn't look too closely at the first as I had never caught a smoothie before.
I found out why it was so windy....
Just realised why it's so windy...some idiot put a load of fans out here...DOH!!!
