Just got back from a very pleasant few hours fishing off Barkby beach.Firefighter and myself decided to just go down for a bit of paddling practice but there were no decent waves to make things interesting but rather than pack up, we thought we'd have a bash at fishing after all.The tide was all wrong as it was going out but we did manage to bag 8 whiting of about 1lb each and a dab. These were all returned except for 1 badly hooked, which provided a meal for a lucky seagull! There was a fantastic sunset which would have made a good photo but I didn't take my camera for the first time in ages thinking there would be nothing worth phographing off Prestatyn,Wrong!!!!, p.s. It's a very long way to the sea dragging the X Factor when the tide's out,I'm knackered.

Hi Fred, The tide was pretty swift but we didn't go out as far as the post, managed to anchor up ok about 300 yards or so out. Dave may be out tomorrow night if you get in touch with him. Tom

I am hoping tomget out next week when the tides are a bit smaller,31.5 ft is to big and fast for my liking at prestatyn.went out with my lad at splash point rhyl with my lad last night and had a good bag of big dabs off the shore.

The dabs,12 in all were all caught on fresh lug tipped with a slither of mackerel, slow going until near high water when I had 2 three shots in two casts, fish were still feeding when I left 1 hour after high.only caught two sizable whiting though for some reason there never seems to be many here

Trouble is steve, the tides are getting later and later, unless you are a bit of a night owl.day tides a bit of a dead loss from shore.

Fred where abouts do you fish at Splash point? If I where to fish at night would I need to take lighting, or are there street lights?

right at the very end by the sharp bend, fish just below off the railings, where you wont need light,or to the right on the bend where the rocks are, this area fishes better in my experience and is less popular due to less comfort, and you will need light.depends on your preference really, mine is catching fish not the easy option.also, the railings can be busy sometimes due to the above, and again crossed lines are another of my pet hates.if you are going to give it a go i may come down for a look
