Welcome ade. General advice to a novice is to practice paddling and get used to your kayak before you start fishing. Try to arrange a day with others. More people more confidence. This time of the year the most essential thing is to keep warm and dry. A drysuit is best in winter. A wetsuit is not warm so you need something warm over it. Your own safety is paramount so dont take risks, make sure you have safety equipment., correct clothing. If you are going out to sea you must get to know the tides and your limits. also remember if you are on the lakes the water is always colder than the sea this time of year. Risks can have grave consequences and put you off kayaking for ever. Stay safe and enjoy. Anything you are not sure of - Ask. You will get countless reply's Hope this helps Steve
