The Native Manta ray 14
This is my first impressions review of the native manta ray14
The quality of he moulding and materials are superb
There are a few small but significant changes to the 14 the biggest of the manta range.
Firstly the seat the dvc seat is now fixed to the kayak via 2 brass moulded inserts this fixes a few small problems firstly the seat does not slip about while fishing and secondly because the inserts are moulded in to the kayak no water can get in
2 sets of scupper stoppers are provided with the kayak these are solid rubber design and fit perfectly.
There are plenty of flat spaces to mount all manor of kit like fish finders gps units ect in the roomy cockpit.
The manta14 is 445cm long which is about 14.5ft
71cm wide which is 29inches wide
weighs 31 kg
Its recommended carrying capacity is 170kg
The side carry handles are centrally aligned and clever moulding of the kayak gives you a paddle rest built in
A huge well drained cargo tank-well with centrally fitted carry handle and lots of flat space around the edge for mounting extra accessories like rod rests pad eyes ect should they be needed are a real plus
A central hatch with a bucket insert is very handy the 14 has 2 of these hatches one is just behind the seat and the other is central in the cockpit
Note the clever moulding for small items like swivels ect this is a real help to us kayak anglers
The large footwell has a pair of fully adjustable foot rests fitted and a pair of forward scupper bungs
The dvc seat is self draining in the wet it also lets air flow through the seat in the summer this seat has a 2 point adjusting system for quick easy adjustment
2 stainless bolts which secure to brass inserts are used to attach the seat
There are a lot of flat surfaces in the cockpit to allow mounting of all sorts of hardware the manta 14 has a lot of legroom available to the taller paddlers
I found The native manta 14 a fantastic kayak with top quality moulding and very easy to kit out.
This is a fast kayak that just seams to skip through the water without any effort.
It is incredibly stable and a perfect fishing platform and sure to be a firm favourite here in the uk .
The recommended retail of the manta 14 is £699 this is fantastic value for money
I now have a demo manta 14 which is available at all the meets if you would like to try it yourself .
