surf lines at llamberis are running a new sit on top kayak course for anglers designed to improve the kayak skills we all need the course is available as a 1 or 2 day course it will cost £80 for 1 day and £160 for 2 days. myself buddy and seajunky have already booked for the first weekend the course will be run it is open to anybody all you need do is visit the llamberis course website and book your place just like we have the first weekend is Feb7 and 8th. www.surf-lines.co.uk:80/adventure/page.asp?p=173i think this is the sort of course that has been lacking in the past and i think it can only be a good thing to learn the extra skills offered on this course we will of course report back when we have completed the course in Feb . well done to surf lines for recognizing the need and putting the course together .

Both me and buddy attended the course yesterday and what a fantastic day we had Half day in the classroom learning all types of water skills then out to the meni to practice and learn the new skills which ended in us paddling through the swellies on a full rising tide it was a fantastic day we learned so much I will get a full report of it up later in the week but it was a course I would recommend to anybody in fact it was so good we have both booked for some further course’s a massive thanks has to go to surf-lines and our superb instructor Giles who was brilliant full report and photos later in the week . What a brilliant day. The first part of the day was in the classroom. I thought this was going to be boring but was i wrong. Anyone booking a course take a pen and pad as you will learn so much you wont take it all in. We looked at basic chart reading. tides and tide speeds. and most interesting was reading the water and understanding what is happening and why. After another brew we went to the streits and the water was moving through nicely. We launched from the anglesey side and paddled across to the other side. Giles was pointing out all the situations and water features we discussed in the classroom. We stopped for chats and discussed paddling techniques, the water around us and why there were so many different things around us IE. eddies fast and slow water, white water, boils, whirlpools. Giles was such a confident instructor that in fast running water i would have normally not even considered i felt safe as everything was talked through and demonstrated first. We went from one side of the streits to the other and back again passing under both bridges with the tide in full flow. The best days kayaking i have had in a long time. When i got home i was still buzzing and every time i have been asked about the weekend and started explaining i have had a bit of an adrenalin rush. Many thanks to Surflines and to Giles for making it a superb day. I would seriously recommend all kayakers take the course. You will learn a vast amount, improve your paddling skills and have a have a fantastic day all round. Steve

Sounds great day out - and a superb place to test out the skills.
Did you use your own yaks or one of theirs?

Ideal for anyone wanting to learn how to use their own kayak safely. Surflines have some very good instructors working for them - the two who gave the free lessons at the demo event I organised last April did an excellent job with beginers and improvers alike. They also have excellent mountaineering and coasteering instructors for anyone wanting to try those sports too.
