When is the best time to leave from Conwy Beacons if you want to go up river with the flood and back with the ebb?
In his very nice report, Boomphat says he left 20 min before high tide. I would have thought something like 2 hours before high tide was best, but I am probably missing something?

By leaving 20 mins before high tide at the Beacons I felt that was just right for going up to Tal Y Cafn with the tide. Bear in mind that high tide at Tal Y Cafn is 1 hour after high tide at the Beacons. When Jimbob and I paddled it on 31.12.08 we felt the tide begin to turn at Tal y Cafn. Be wary of spring tides there, as by Conwy Harbour and under the bridges the flow can be over 6 knots.

12 mile round trip is my absolute limit by the way, I would suggest you work up to that distance, even if the tide is in your favour both ways.

Thanks for the info Boomphat. The difference in high tide times along the river explains things then.
By the way, can you fish in the river?
