For a February day Saturday was simply fantastic, barely a breeze, flat calm as a result and dare I saw it, quite warm!.
I decided to try and follow up on my success earlier in the week, using my GPS to put me directly onto my previous mark.
No real change in my tactics, lots of beads on a slightly modified wishbone rig, king rag tipped off with squid strip - looked good enough to eat ;D. Though I decided dipping my Oreos in a hot coffee was perhaps a better bet
I fished two rigs, one with green and black bead which apparently works well over mussel beds, the other was yellow and red beads which is supposed to work over sandy seabeds... how could I go wrong!
The first half of the session was pretty quiet, with the odd tap here and there, nothing to excite me though. However, as the tide began to ease there was a series of solid tugs on one of the rods which after a few minutes of patient waiting produced a smallish plaice - a quick photo and it was duly returned.
The bites came and went for an hour or so making life a wee bit more interesting. Another good set of bites produced a better fish - big enough to go into the oven ;D
Well I certainly cannot complain, despite being somewhat early in the season I've managed four plaice this week. Hopefully they'll get fatter and be about in greater numbers over the next month or so.
There must have been 15-20 anglers fishing along the shoreline. I was fishing around 500-600m out and the difference was clearly apparent. I dont believe a single plaice was caught from the shore, I've been there and it's very frustrating - the benefits of fishing from a kayak are clearly apparent at times like these.
