I was in the need of a new crate for the tank well of the SP, and wanted something 'more' than just an old milk or collapsible crate. So I set about making one to fit ;D
I started out with an old camping type cooler box. This was too tall to fit properly inside the SP's tank well and needed modifying to fit.
After determining the right height I set to with the jigsaw and ended up with this:
Once I had checked for the right size for the tank well, I reassembled the cooler box including all the polystyrene insulation.
Although I was happy with the size of the box, it still needed some work because it was far too narrow to sit firmly in place even with bungees. So I made a template of the inside of the well and cut a 'back board' from 20mm thick PVC board. I also cut a piece to fit inside the base of the box.
The base board and back panel were then fitted to the box and offered up to the yak. After some slight alterations and fine tuning, I was happy with the overall fit.
Of course it still looked like a dogs dinner at this stage and then I remembered the paint I had left from the 'butty box' thread. Yes you guessed it...I decided to colour match it ;D
The box, once painted, looked pretty good and I was pleased with the result, however I would never earn a decent living in a spray shop ;D ;D I added the usual bits of plumbing pipe for rod holders secured in place with some pipe clips and heavy duty stainless self tappers. I also fitted some pad eyes to lash the box down securely into the tank well and fitted some conduit clips for my flag / nav light pole. I used some old cam lock webbing strap and a side release buckle to hold the lid in place. I also fitted some Solas tape around the box (mainly to cover the paint runs ;D)
The end result looks like this:
I will take some photos of it set up in the yak tomorrow, it's too dark now and I'm gagging for a coffee ;D
