Since purchasing my prowler in May due to selling my tarpon 130t i've been adding a few bits and bobs to make it more fishing friendly. With some spare time from launching at penmon yesterday I took the time to take some quick pics of my work so far-
First of all the kit ready to push out onto the water-
I began kitting it out with an anchor trolley system and having installed the very user friendly watertrial system on my previous tarpon and learning how the basic system works, I decide to purchase the parts seperately from a local marine store and use the prowlers excellent add on capabilities for installation-
Next step was storage for the tackle, anchor, baiting board etc etc. Had a tesco crate in the back until i found a colour coded ;D crate from B&Q for a mere £2.48! Bargain. In the picture i've used the rear rod carriers for a knife which snugly and securely fits in with some pipe lagging and my scissors and pliers are a tight, secure fit on the other side.-
My next purchase was a scotty orca rod holder which I installed in the pre threaded holes made for the job at the front of the yak which has quickly developed into 2 orcas installed on the footwell area sides. This was a bit of a nightmare of a job with access to drill the holes having to be overcome by holding the drillbits in molegrips and drilling by hand . The next worry was with the planned 6.5inch extensions the bolts might pull out so with access to some excellent stainless steel and endless tools an machinery at work i made backing plates using tolerances of 0.2mm . The last brain strain was to have access to the release buttons at the end of a fishing seshion so precise installations allows me to slip a wide flathead screwdriver to release the button (excuse the blurry photo)-
With the end result with rods(cheap and nasty and will be purchasing more kayak friendly ones soon) installed.-
I was now able to drift, trawl and baitfish handsfree
A good deal on a secondhand humminbird 515 got the drill and marine silicone tubs out of the shed again and with more bits and bobs from the local marine store including some rather expensive marine cable glands the fishfinder was installed instead of the cheesey tackle box provided with the prowler as standard. The battery's tucked away in the hull inside an airtight sandwich box with a cable gland popped onto the end. And to finish my electronics off for now I took my New Standard Horizon floating HX750E for its first outing(which clips to my Pfd).-
And thats it for now with more additions to come no doubt.
