After searcing the forums for info on anchors a made the leap and fitted my first anchor trolley, also removed the net and added a bucket which I personally found more useful than than a netted bag. The rubber lid is still used to provide the water tight seal. The anchor system works well but I need to get hold of some sash window weights as I fish over rocky ground and did loose my anckor (steel tube) the other day fishing a shallow reef a mile off shore, became quite a scary situation and ended up having to cut the line, The bits I used for the trolley: The result: The modified bucket arrangement: Enlarging the hole The bits including the plant pot?? trimmed to provide the seat for the bucket, this allows the bucket to sit below the lip to allow the rubber hatch cover to fit as before. The plant pot siliconed into position The bucket fitted (~£2 from wickes or B&Q), I have left the handle on for now but it would be an even better fit if removed

What if the yak capsizes and the bucket falls out leaving water to flood into the yak just when you need to do a re-entry?

daz the rubber hatch cover will still fit the hatch (hole) rim just the way it did before the bucket is below the rim edge so should be watertight .

What a superb idea! I suppose caution would be needed when opening the hatch cover to access the bait just in case you did capsize for what ever reason. Could a tough watertight bag be sealed between the plant pot rim and the kayak so that it is below the bait bucket? Whether or not the bait bucket falls out it would be water tight in the event of a capsize on the off chance your lid is off. Thanks for sharing the super idea! As a matter of interest is the hatch cover leashed/ secured in some way to the moken12?

Thanks for all your comments, this forum is great for sharing ideas. A waterproof bag is a good idea although I normally take the rubber lid off when out of the water to let the kayak dry out inside. The rubber lid will be leashed as before using the original cord, I'll add a photo when complete (Not been out since I did this mod, the southwesterlys just keep on blowin). My intention is to keep the rubber lid on (always when lowering/raising the anchor ;D)only removing when necessary. So far as safety is concerned I guess it's no different from many other kayak hatches, although I am looking into adding a sealing arrangement between the plant pot and the bucket so at least the bucket will be a tight fit to limit splashes getting in to the hull and possibly stop the bucket easily falling out in the event of a capsize.
