Depends on the camper. Loadsa of touring kayakers use a camper to go away for kayaking trips.

I have a demountable camper on a Navara pickup truck. It is too high to lift a kayak up onto. I have bought a motor bike trailer and am modifying it to carry both a motorbike and kayak at the same time! I have a rack on the top of the camper but have not come up with any ideas about how to get the Yak up there. Recreational kayaks tend to be lighter than fishing yaks.

I'm going the other route and am looking to get a caravan and simply load the yak on the roof of the car as normal. John

I've been a hardcore camper for 30 years almost, but I'm sick of my tents blowing flat in the wind. I'm also sick of strapping yaks on the roof, and subsequent flat spots. I'd like to get a Mercedes Sprinter van so I can just lob the yaks in the back, with a bed platform above.

Had a think. Why don't you secure the wider of a 2 stage ladder to a roof rack, tie the yak to thinner ladder and have a stick to slide it all the way up with some kind of locking. You've got ladders up to store other stuff on the roof rack taboot.

At the moment i have a peugeot 406 estate witch is good for carrying the kayaks on , And i also sleep in the back on short trips( one night) I also use a tent if i go for longer. So i thought if i got a medium sized campervan ( VW or TALBOT AUTOSLEEPER) i would be able to use it as my main car. And it would make the trips away with the kayaks that much more comfy. I do have a few ideas how i could rig a rack but i thought i would ask to see if there is a purpose built rack on the market . There must be something out there, As Dorado says touring sea kayakers use campers .

Haven't seen any racks in the UK that fit the bill, but in the USA i've seen a few camper vans with the yaks carried on a rack on the side of the van. Some fabrication firm should be able to knock that up for you. Dave

I've seen motorhomes, usually with "slipper" type sit-ins on top, rarely with small sit on tops, and never with sea kayaks on top. I've got a Mondeo Estate that I can sleep in too, but its not ideal. Campervans are usually silly money, and you would do yourself a mischief trying to get a Prowler on the roof, and they could well have a dodgy engine, so thats why I fancy a plain white van, but its gotta be long enough for my Scupper Pro, Mercedes should have a decent engine, and your yaks are less visible to thieves.

If i have to make something myself i was thinking of slinging the racks along the sides of the high top like clouser had seen in the USA, rather than getting the yak right up on the top ,i am 6ft 3in so and 15 stone so getting the kayak on the side shouldn't be a problem as long as it doesnt stick out to far.
