I know it's not kayak or fishing related but he may become a great tandem paddle partner if started young enough ;D Just over twelve months ago we had our 9 year old Deerhound put to sleep through ill health & two weeks ago we lost our trusty Lurcher of 14 years On the bright side though we have just found a suitable replacement..... A Scottish Deerhound puppy of outstanding breed lines at 10 weeks old. We are due to pick him up on the 5th Dec.

They really are gentle giants and great house dogs. Despite their size they are fairly low maintenance. They shouldn't have too long walks on concrete for the first 10 months or so and running on grass should be limited too, this is to prevent damage to their bones and joints.

Deerhounds are a popular choice in a Lurcher Steve, Greyhound / Deerhound crosses are ideal for hunting foxes.
