Guys this issue is starting up again.
Consultation on licences for sea fishing Published online at 04/01/2010 13:53:43 Fishing in the sea at Derbyhaven
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is considering bringing in licences for sea fishing in a move which could prove unpopular with hobby anglers.
DAFF Minister Phil Gawne says a small number of fishermen are causing problems which his department has no way of dealing with.
He says a consultation exercise has begun to find out what people think of introducing new licences which anyone planning to fish in the sea, either from boats or the shore, would need.
Mr Gawne says it's not a way of making money:

Mr Gawne says it's not a way of making money: It never is a way of making money but when they get the OK the prices shoot up every year. It just makes us Paying Pawns in political games. Steve

I agree mate. But in the current climate I think that the government are looking for all ways to raise cash. I am afraid that the very laid back attitude of sea angler is going to cost them in the end. Because in general terms sea anglers are to a large extent are not organised as such, and they are going to be picked off.

In the current climate they are on a hiding second to none. We use to have lots of good days out fishing, both kayak and beach fishing. Now we go out hoping to CATCH SOMETHING worth catching. They have allowed the mussle beds to be stripped clean off Bangor and the mouth of the River Kent has been trawled regularly for well over 12 months. Now when you go to Arnside you feed the crabs as there are no flounder to eat the crab as they are peeling. These are just 2 of MANY places ruined without a thought for the recreational angler. Why should we pay for a licence to fish venues that are being trawled out. We are catching less and less each year and things are NOT going to improve They wont improve our sport but will kill it in a very short time. Steve

Before the guns start to blaze perhaps it should be made clear that this is the government of the Isle of Man.....NOT the UK!!!!

Terry they all watch each other. There are lots of issues coming up which at the moment only effect england, but when the Scotts, and Welsh governments see how much they earn, they will all be doing the same things to raise cash.

I know I am in the minority on this one but........ I think a discussion is the way forward. Don't just say 'No' , this is a time to negotiate not ignore it.
IF governments do want a license us then they will do it regardless, look at other legislation and the foxes!
So talk FIRST, your voice will be lost afterwards get in first.
My own view is that this will be some time away yet.
