After reading and answering the post RISK ASSESMENT i decided to start this post as it is very important and can be catastrophic.
One of the biggest failures seen when out with others is the way the anchor is deployed. You can have the best setup possible but if used wrong you will end up in the drink. The anchor should be lowered over until the chain is over the side then the rope put in the clip and trolleyed to either the front or back of the kakak before completly lowering your anchor to the sea bed. The tide will then pull you round from the front or rear. If you just throw the anchor over and wait for it to tighten the chance is that when the rope tightens it will still be in the center of the kayak and the pull of the tide/rope will easily flip you over especially if the anchor rope is under the kayak. Be warned, be careful and stay safe. Steve
Please feel free to add you comments both for and against my prefered method. I am thick skinned and can take critisism as well as advice ;D If anyone uses a better method, please share it with us. Also share any close calls and lessons learned from these as it could help other members to avoid serious mishaps.

If you are in shallow water with no tide a chain is not needed but in a tide or deep water the rise and fall of the kayak will lift the anchor and cause you drag anchor. If you put a length of chain on the lift will lift the chain slightly allowing the anchor to lie in place avoiding anchor drag. Another point is the length of rope used. It should be approx 3x the depth you are fishing. Steve
