Its getting that time of year again. The weather should be getting warmer.
We are thinking of starting the Paddlesport-start courses again in about 3 or 4 weeks if there is enough interest.
The venue will be at Runcorn on the canal. If you are interested please pm me or Terry. As places are limited to 12 only and they will be done on a first come basis.
The cost of the course will be the same last year, £25.00 which includes the BCU PADDLESPORT-START certificate providing you reach the required level on the day. These proved to be very popular last season and everyone had a fun day. Steve

I have been asked a few questions regarding the course that I will try to answer.
Firstly the course will be run by myself and buddy we are both level 1 bcu coaches And both bcu registered course providers .
Who is the course aimed at? its aimed at all paddlers it will show you the correct methods and techniques of many paddle strokes by doing the correct techniques on the strokes you will find it easier to paddle and if necessary be able to sustain the stroke for longer you will have better control over your kayak.
What about the safety stuff? During the day we will firstly complete the bcu paddle sport start syllabus then when we have completed this we will then have a safety session which will show you self re-entry assisted re-entry and many other things.
What do I need to bring?Bring what ever you would usually use your clothing your kayaks and your general equipment that you would normally use when going for a paddle.
I know how to paddle so will it be any use to me? Yes even though you may be a great paddler you will learn several strokes and the full techniques for them so you will improve your stroke we all develop bad habits over time
I am totally new to kayaking I never paddled before? That’s no problem the course will show you how to get in and out of your kayak and the most used strokes will get you using the correct techniques right from the beginning
Do I get a certificate for it and can I fail? Yes to both you will get a certificate on the day which is issued by the British canoe union. You have to reach a certain standard in all the things we do you can fail but we will work with you to make sure you don’t.
Can I just turn up on the day? Unfortunately not we can only teach 12 people max at a time and have to register you for the course and certification we also have to name you for the insurance before the course date so you need to pm either myself or buddy with your full name and address first.

Thanks for the pms guys What does the course entail. We will closely follow the BCU PADDLESPORT-START syllabus Coaching you the fundamental skills and correct techniques of getting in and out of your kayak forward paddling, backward paddling, moving from side to side, turning ect Once the paddle sport syllabus is completed we will then go through some safety skills: Re-entry methods both solo and assisted .rafting up .getting help ect The course is run at your pace so no body is rushed and we all have a good laugh during the day last year we had members on there first paddle and people who were brilliant paddlers so it really is for everybody. But do expect to get wet.

As a novice I attended the first course ran by Zebra and Buddy and I have got to say that it was a brilliant day. Apart from learning a lot, you will be in the company of some good people and as Terry said have a good laugh once the syllabus has been completed. Just go for it. You will not regret it. Cheers Bill

Thanks Terry and Steve for a cracking day, it has given me a really good basic understanding of the strokes eliminating bad habits from the start. It was also great to meet the other people on the course and share in their enthusiasm for this great hobby. )P.S nice try terry to let my boat go down stream to be picked up at a later date.) ;D ;D ;D ;D. I hope to catch up with a few of you in the near future to share a fishing trip. Many Thanks Tim

As Terry said. Well done to all who attended and thanks to kayaks northwest for the use of the venue. The weather was yet again very kind to us. All who attended joined in with enthusiasm and hopfully enjoyed taking part as much as we enjoyed the coaching. Thanks to Terry and all who took part for helping make the day a sucsess. Steve (Buddy)
