As a Pro Staffer for YakAttack I'm periodically sent some new gear to try out. I recently received some of their new GearTrac, a high quality add-on track system.
It's made from high quality anodised aluminium and has a curved profile allowing it to be mounted to both flat and curved hull profiles. It comes in a variety of lengths from 4"-16". It arrived neatly packaged with stainless screws, a drill bit and a YakAttack sticker!
The product has huge potential and allows the quick attachment and removal of accessories. YakAttack supply the 'ScrewBall' in 1" and 1.5" sizes that attaches to the track in seconds, allowing RAM accessories to be attached. Their own product line of camera/video mounts and light poles can be ordered with the GearTrac mounting option.
YakAttack also produces the MightMount (a mount in its own right) that can also be attached to the GearTrac it required allowing Scotty rail mounts to be used... plus a lot more with some imagination.
The rigging on my kayak has evolved over the years and a fishfinder, GPS and GoPro video camera are currently all positioned upfront. It's a workable affair though the GearTrac allowed me to tidy up whole setup whilst creating some additional work space at the same time.
I positoned a 16" section of GearTrac up front on the 'dashboard' area of the Big Game whilst postioning a smaller 8" section directly behind my seat. The latter allows the easy fitment of camera and light poles, etc
With the accessories removed the profile is very low and doesn't hinder loading/unloading a kayak when upside down.
It's ideal for a rigging upgrade, or when rigging a new kayak from scratch.
I've just posted a full rigging article here: www.saltwaterkayakfisherman.com/2011/12/rigging-with-geartrac.html
Here are some photos from my recent rigging.
