I’ve spent three days outside in the freezing temperature rigging, bar being frozen, it’s been fun!. Earlier I posted a few photos of the GearTrac from YakAttack. Well I’ve also been playing with their range of camera mounts and it’s amazing just how versatile they are!.
I’ve posted a full article on my website: www.saltwaterkayakfisherman.com/2011/12/panfish-dogbone-mounts-from-yakattack.html
However, here’s a shortened breakdown.
Firstly there’s the PanFish. It’s a 28” high pole that can be rotated through 360 degrees. It has multiple mounting options, Scotty, RAM as well as mounting options for YakAttacks own GearTrac and MightyMount.
It’ll happily support cameras up to 1lb in weight, plus the camera mount floats should the worst ever happen. It’s also a nice fit into a flush mounted rod holder. I never use mine so I rotated one so it’s 90 degrees to the kayak, the result being a great camera angle into the ‘cockpit’ area.
Next up is the PanFish Portrait. It’s basically a miniature version of the PanFish at a height of 6”. It has all the same mounting options of the Panfish and is ideally suited to being mounted upfront. Once fixed in position it can still be swivelled through 360 degrees to access the camera menu/self timer. It can also support heavier cameras up to 2lb in weight.
Last but not least is the DogBone!. It’s a short tubular mount with 1” RAM balls at either end. This has turned out to be a really adaptable mount providing a multitude of potential camera angles, ever 360 degree underwater shots!.
One of the 1” balls is removable and can be readily swapped to a 1.5” RAM ball or made GearTrac/MightyMount compatible.
First impressions are really good, I’ll be trying them out in anger very soon!
