Welsh sea kayaking This book is written with the tourers in mind it shows 50 kayak voyages around the welsh coast. But what’s brilliant about it is the fact it shows some excellent photos of the venue launch points and retrieval points it also shows the typical currents for that particular area as well as dangerous tidal parts and sea obstructions. It would be a very good book for plotting a days fishing with al the relevant information easily laid out .I particuly liked the bull bay section this gave me a better understanding of the tidal flows for that area . Its £19.99 and I think represents great value for money I have asked boomphat to also add to my review on this book. this book is available from pesda press . www.pesdapress.com/product_info.php?cPath=9_13&products_id=2

This is a really nice book, with loads of info in it: launch sites, escape routes, parking, cafes, shops, campsites. Geological and historical info too, but more importantly tide flows and where to expect rough water in each location. It's written by paddlers for paddlers. I don't think us sit on top users are capable of the longer distances that these sea kayakers can manage (eg. Anglesey to Ireland, or the Isle of Man, both in the book) so its good that the 50 routes are separated into 3 grades of difficulty, of which only the easy ones are for us (IMO). I was familiar with most of the North Wales paddles, but using the advice given I would now like to paddle Hilbre, St Tudwals and Llanddwyn (in suitable conditions of course) Personally I think its expensive, but the safety advice about so many locations makes it invaluable, and hard to gather otherwise. All information is set out clearly and can be referred to quickly. I would definitely take it if I was taking my yak on holiday!

I have just got this book from Ebay for £15 incl.
I cannot fault it, I had seen it a couple of times previously but felt that the trips were not ideally suited to the Prowler. Now that I have the Easky 15 I am feeling more confident about the distance that is viable. The book is extremely thorough with some great photos. The level of detail given for trip planning is great and will get any yakker chomping at the bit.
Yes it is expensive but when you look at any yakking book be it fishing or touring they are all low print rates and hence the unit cost is higher. Considering nearly every page has a colour print on I think it is not really overpriced in an expensive genre.
As you browse the book locations leap out at you and you think' I've been there...and there.' You can dip in and out of the book and cut the trips as you want to make them easier.
Jim and Andy have consolidated a lot of information which any would be sea kayaker will enjoy. Many yak anglers will also find some of the info very helpful too.
I am very happy with my purchase and it will be coming with me in July onto the Lleyn.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ***** Five Stars

You won't regret it Trevor. Even if you never do any of the paddles it still makes a great read.

There's a new one coming out at the end of the month: www.pesdapress.com/p45/Northern-England-&-IOM/product_info.html'From the Mersey to the Solway and the Isle of Man in the West and the Humber to Berwick in the east, ‘up north’ is described to us in the author’s own inimitable style. The result is a wealth of varied sea kayaking voyages to suit all tastes and abilities, from easy sheltered paddles to testing offshore passages and everything in between. In addition to the usual important information needed to plan a trip recommended cafés, pubs and chip shops are strategically located to provide sustenance at the end of your trip. Detailed tidal information also allows the book to serve as a valuable inshore pilot for water users such as anglers, windsurfers and sailors. Jim graciously asked me to read an early copy of his Mersey trip to see if there was anything else I could add, [there wasn't], and if the rest of the trips are described as well as that one it will be a great read.
