The Railblaza star mount and rod rest
This is my review of the Railblaza rod rest /star mount and adjustable extender bar
Railblaza is a new company to the UK making all sorts of innovative systems like rod rests and gps mounts ect all ideal for the kayak.
There is a whole pile of various accessories which all mount in to the Railblaza star mounting base the beauty is with the same mounting base you can swap and change accessories making the whole system very versatile .
The whole range of Railblaza accessories are very attractively and individually packaged
Each item in the range comes with fully comprehensive clear fitting instructions these have been really well thought out with printed templates for drilling and cutting this makes fitting the system really easy and quick
The Railblaza star mount comes with all stainless fittings included in the box
There are 3 main parts to the mount.
The base the rubber cover and the main star mount .
They are made from high quality impact nylon so will last a long time
The underside of the mount.
Note 2 different size holes in the base one set for nuts and bolts the other smaller ones for long self tapers both are included with the mount
A large rubber stopper is also included this does 2 jobs firstly it’s a stopper for the mount when not in use secondly it’s a rubber waterproof gasket for when you fit the mount as a flush mount
The railblaza star mount can be fitted to protrude from the kayak or flush mount by removing the base and using it inside the kayak as a support bracket this makes the whole thing very strong when fitted .the mount also has a locking system so once the rod holder or other accessory is clipped in to the mount a positive lock is achieved by sliding the lock button across the mount
The rod rest can be adjusted for angle via a large easy to use handle mounted on the side of the unit note the oval hole on the underside of the rest for mounting a rod leash
The mount is made from high impact nylon it has a front sliding rod lock and a rear lock for narrow butt rods
The rod rest fits in to the mount with a positive lock the star mount allows for precision angling of the rest when it is mounted to the kayak
With a simple slide of the lock button the rest is securely locked in place
An adjuster bar is a multi angled height adjuster allowing the rod rest to stand higher
Using the same star mount the height adjustment bar can be swivelled in several directions so setting the rod exactly in the right position this also has a positive locking ring which securely locks everything in place
Using the rod holder with the adjuster bar allows for a very versatile secure rod holder
The Railblaza range has certainly raised the bar in regards to mounting equipment to kayaks.
The quality and styling of the product is superb each piece has been really thought about with many innovative little touches I was really impressed with the packaging which I think deserves a mention it’s a simple thing to give precise instructions and mounting templates but it’s the only time I have ever seen a rod mount with these .
The star point mounting system is superb very quick to fit and very secure I know this new product is going to be a real big success here in the UK
