A Mid Wales Lake which had never been fished!! Farmer invited me up to have a go as he'd put a few fish in at less than a pound about 4 years ago . Caught this and a few others in 2005.

Wow hursty, that is a superb brown ;D, obviously it's a private water but just shows it can be done. Must ask did you catch it whilst on the anchor or on the drift? and 'nosy, nosy' what fly did you use?
Cheers
Tim

Hi, I am basically a trout / seatrout angler that has bought a kayak to target bass on the fly and lure because of the bad sea trout runs that we have been having.
If you can soirt out any venues I would be interested in joining you Chris PS Likewise for bass.

Hi, I am basically a trout / seatrout angler that has bought a kayak to target bass on the fly and lure because of the bad sea trout runs that we have been having. If you can soirt out any venues I would be interested in joining you Chris PS Likewise for bass. Where are you based Chris? I purely SWFF (Salt Water Fly Fish)and the yak is just an extention to that. You wouldn't do yourself any harm getting along to one of the forum meets, even if it is just to see rigged kayaks etc. they are a good bunch and would be more than willing to give you as many tips as you can possibly digest. I see from your original post that you are into the sewin. Do you fancy a bash for them in the salt? I know a good 'localish' area where there are normally a fair few numbers of them 'holding up' this time of year and I am looking to 'have a bit of wander over the next few weeks or so - time and tide dependant. You don't necessarily want or need a kayak to get to them, but as I have previously stated "this is where the kayak comes into my fishing as because just as the fish (summer bass normally) come into the 'zone' the incoming tide normally forces you off the mark. If your main reason for the the kayak is for very close inshore use, then I personally would not go to too much expense with all the life-saving clothing etc. Not all in one go anyway. I'm not saying A pair of breathable waders, a PFD and a VHF radio is enough for me to re-assure my comfort and safety. See this link for salty sea trout, it will atleast give you a pointer or two and something to think about. All the best Steve

Karl, By all means, the next time I plan on getting out and about I will give you a shout. PM me your phone number or similar and a quick note to your general availability. Here is the link that I was trying to post. www.flyforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8927P.S. If you havn't already done so, it may be worth your while contacting Carl (Berlin) from UKSWFF to bag a Vosseler reel or 2. Cheers Steve

Steve,
Top article, I especially like the draught excluder to hold flies - helps with a rigging idea for the Yak. I've been watching the Vosseler reels on Ebay, just got outbidded for an S1 - gutted, have to keep watching and see if Carl puts anymore on, did get a nice Bloke rod yesterday though at a good price! Booked in for the Northern Clave / Casting Lessons with Carl in early April - should be a good experience so lookin forward to that. I'll PM the other info. Cheers Karl

Llyn Gwynant could be possible as they allow kayaks on there anyway for £3 a day.
