I have this evening sent an e-mail to Welsh Water asking if they have any lakes in North Wales which will allow flyfishing from Kayaks. Myself and Topcat are keen Trout and Salmon fishermen and have discussed this on a couple of occasions, especially after the Llyn Padarn meet. Hopefully I will receive a positive reply from Welsh Water and will post their response as I get it. If anybody else is interested in Flyfishing for Trout next season please let me know, as I'm sure, with numbers, we could arrange a club day out.
Cheers
Tim

count me in Tim - got a few things to learn but love that idea of yours of paddling up the legnth of a lake against a reasonable wind and then fishing it with the fly on the drift all the way back- sounds great.

Hopefully Welsh Water will play ball as they allow float tubes on the Brenig and Kayaks are certainly safer as we can move away from 'some' of the other users. Saying that whilst fishing in the sea we have jet skis to worry about

Receive a reply from Dwr Cymru stating that unfortunately only boat and float tube fishing are allowed on their waters. I will continue to search out some private waters and see if any will allow us to 'flick a feather'. I would also like to thank David from Dwr Cymru for a very prompt reply, even if wasn't the answer I wanted.
Cheers

Just out on interest Tim- did he say why? - no kayak fishing. I know rhey have their own boats on Brenig but do they have float tubes as well.

No, they didn't give a reason but I assume when they think of kayaks they think of white water canoes and not sit-on tops, purposely made for fishing. I posted a link to our web site with my reply, so hopefully they will see we are safe, keen fishermen. Just a note, it did take many years before float tubes where permitted. You can use your own float tube on the Brenig for a small fee but you are restricted to a certain area, which would be fine for us to start with. It's just being given that first chance to prove we would be no trouble to the fishery and would bring in much needed revenue.
Cheers

I hope you get to make some progress Tim or even find another water that will allow the kayaks because after this lot of recent non-stop blow and foul weather- the prospect of sitting on kayak on a lake next summer trying a bit of fly-fishing has just brought a big to my face.

I think you can tell George that this is my mission before the season starts in March next year. I will not fail. My best mate is very interested in yakking, only if he can go flyfishing. So the challenge is on. One or two phone calls in order. Anyhow I will post some useful flyfishing info over the winter for anybody who is interested, some maybe useful to flyfishing at sea, which I will defo be doing in the summer for Mackerel and Bass. Watch this space Cheers Tim

Up-date for those interested in trout fly fishing this coming season. Sent six e-mails to various angling associations with rights to lakes with no response. Never mind . But having been home (Birth place - and real spiritual home) Dolgellau, today I suddenly thought of Llyn Traws. I shall give them a call in the new year and see what the possibilities are. Watch this space, and keep the old fingers crossed. Cheers Tim
