Gosea Angler Sport part1
I have done this review in 2 parts this is because there is so much to say and show it needed 2 parts to try to show every thing.
Before I start with the review of the kayak I would like to mention the order process and packaging from the first order being placed I had 3 emails within a few hours letting me know the progress of my order and delivery details this was first class and very detailed so I knew exactly what was happening with my order.
Packaging
This kayak was extremely well packaged it had 4 layers of protection bubble rap cardboard and plastic then the whole thing was in a sacking type material bag
When the kayak was UN-wrapped I was amazed to find the hull had 2 inch tape on all the high spots on the hull to prevent scratches while it was being fitted out at the factory a superb idea that made sure my new kayak was in prestige condition for delivery.
This is my review of the Gosea Angler Sport
This is a 12ft kayak with full features and elegant lines it is made from the finest roto molded plastics.
The kayak comes with 3 hatches 2 screw down type and one rubber forward hatch.
This is the deluxe version of the Gosea Angler Sport with high back seat (I will review the seat separately later )but I would urge anybody considering buying this kayak to upgrade to the deluxe seat its superb
The rear tank well is molded to take a 15 gallon bucket but it also has molded corners for a crate so all the options are covered in the front center of the rear well is a scupper hole this is a shaped scupper hole so water drains quickly and quietly and very effectively from the tank well
The tank well has a 6mm bungee cord tie down system with 6 plastic single hole pad eye fittings in addition there is a 7th pad eye this is to secure during transport the rudder cables
The rear handle is cross mounted this makes it balanced and easier to carry to and from the water but remember to carry the kayak backwards rear leading this is to prevent the rudder blade from getting in the carriers way
In front of the rear tank well is the first deck space behind the seat it has 2 flush caped rod mounts and a central hatch it also has 4 pad eyes 2 are for seat clips and 2 are for rod leashes
The front of the kayak has a central mounted handle and a securing bungee to the hatch this is a security measure to make sure you won’t loose the front hatch
The front storage hatch is made from soft rubber and seals tightly to the rim of the hatch opening clever drainage molding moves any water on the front of the kayak away from the hatch
The cockpit is spacious with plenty of leg room and some really clever molding the seat area has a slightly raised area with a screw hatch within easy reach of the paddler
You will notice there is only 1 scupper hole the whole area of the cockpit is slightly sloped towards this scupper hole so water drains very quickly to it and away this means the area in front of your feet and behind the pedals is usable for storage of tackle this is a great new feature and one I am sure other manufacturers will want to copy
The front of the kayak has a raised profile to cut through the water and expel excess water
With a molded water bottle holder and a Scotty mount recess complete with internal brass threaded anchor points the center console is complete but note should be taken of the flat ridged area ideal for mounting fish finders gps ect its ideal
The footrests are again innovative and different to anything else we have seen the top part of the foot rest operates the rudder while the bottom heal area is a solid anchor this makes operating the rudder really easy while giving a strong solid feel to the rest
The foot pedals have a stainless steel spring Incorporated this returns the rudder to the neutral position once pressure is relived from the foot control and effectively giving this kayak a skeg which adds to the stability of the kayak
Note the wide molded leg areas on this kayak
the rudder deployment controls are on the right hand side of the kayak these are fitted with 2 large plastic balls making it easy to deploy or store the rudder even with wet cold hands
completion this review will be in part 2
