I had a beautiful day on BH Monday, Doing what I love , flyfishing the upper Welsh Dee. I didn't see another person all day. I managed to catch and release one or two small Brownies , and some better out of season Grayling and then I became aware , I was not alone. In the middle of the river a female Grass Snake was swimming against the current , she was making no attempt to get to the side, but was allowing herself to drift down river in the fast flow. A smaller male grass snake was following her down stream shooting about in and out of the water in a hyper-active state. It was quite amazing and it carried on until they both disappeared from sight around the bend of the river. She wasn't even bothered much when I pursued her to try and get a photo. I can only think that she was drawing attention to her desire to breed. I've not seen a Grass Snake for a while - not many in Warrington ! It made my day Has anyone ever seen this kind of behaviour before ? Phil

Fantastic thing to see, My nearest was an Adder, i was doing a repair under my mates caravan on Anglesey. The adder was coming toward me as i was crawling out. A breaking wind moment. The following week his spaniel got bit by one. Steve

At the carp syndicate I used to be a member of,we used to get adders quite often swimming across the lake to the island. One evening I was watching one head straight to my swim, not to certain what to do so just kept my eye on it. It touched land about 30'' in front of me, I picked up the landing net, don't really know why but I did, the snake came up the bank edge right next to me and I lost sight of it. 20'' away and I lost sight of it, could I find it, could I hell.
I emptied the bivvy, bags, holdalls, tins, boxes, bait bags, shook my chair---------------nothing but I can tell you I did not rest easily at all that night.
