This is my attempt at a sail & outrigger kit to a Manta 14 after watching some of the vids on utube of kayak sailing , i had the kit left over from a Hobie outback i sold, the outback was to wide to gain the full benefit of the kit so i have adapted it to the Manta which i love, i tested it out at a lake near me in almost gail force winds, once i got the hang of it it flew across the lake with the forces on the mast almost bent double and leaning right over, rather things break now than at sea, Outriggers worked brilliant checked everything inside the yak the bracing which was all mounted with double upvc pipes and Polly 40 mastic sealant were all good, the only thing it needs is a Leaward board & im working on that now using a large dagger board from a windsurfer which i want to be clean, simple to operate and strong, if i have learned one thing about being in a yak fishing its keep every thing to a minimum, secure & functional because when it goes wrong it goes wrong.

Yes Mate Bosworth, i will get some pics and vis once i get it out on the sea, the only tell tale of how strong the wind was is the trees in the first pic otherwise it looks calm as hell.

I was on Ravensthorpe on Monday and the wind was howling. Makes for challenging conditions.

looks briliant carl great photos i like the out-riggers as well how have you attached the out-riggers to the kayak is it with a suplied bracket or did you make your own one and do they get in the way at all while your paddling .
does the base of the sail go right through the console or is there a stop on it

I can only agree you have made a super job of this conversion. Like Zeb, I am interested in how you have fastened the base of the mast or what system of socket have you used to hold the mast base. Also what is the fitting you have used in the deck that the mast slides into.

Interesting, though I'm curious that you didn't find the Outback suited to sailing. I regularly cruise at 5-6mph and have max's out at a steady 7.5mph (though not for the faint hearted!). I'm interested to see how your new setup performs. If you get the chance, please post some follow info and performance figures.
