FB is a bit of a marmite thing. Many kayak anglers will not use it and many are very busy on it. There are loads of sites out there already.
The major difference is that comments can drop down the page so quickly quality post can easily get lost. Whereas a forum is far easier to use as a reference point and people can go into more detail on subjects.

Like Terry says, much like forums may I add, there's a Marmite thing going on. Some people don't like using one, the other or either and some people have a huge presence on both.
IMO forums by their very own organised nature are a better learning place. Topics are easily found and remain active for longer encouraging more in depth and thought out replies. You can browse through old threads and cherry pick ones that may be of interest (importance of using a suitable title) on facebook if someone posts a picture of a monkey on a kayak then the lot is gone forever haha.
That said though, I still think Facebook is a invaluable resource to the kayak angler, it tends to be more informal and going off topic is perfectly acceptable on most pages so social bonds are built quicker. They are also Ideal for arranging a quick session as most people will visit facebook many times during the day... apart from the die hard few, most people tend only visit a forum once or twice a day.
I don't think facebook needs another kayak fishing page though just like the www doesn't need another kayak forum. Too many and the pool of anglers and knowledge just gets diluted.

Regionally based forums are great like here threads tend to be focused and a certain forum becomes the 'go to' site for local knowledge. They also tend to be more friendly. Take NWKF offensive behaviour is not tolerated and as such many browse other forums but do not contribute for fear of being put down. Same goes for content. That is why I started a coarse fishing based one. I found that on another large forum you could be belittled for being happy catching small fish or for paddling a slower stable kayak with a different sort of seat. It is a case of joining forums or FB pages as they fit your needs. Having said that it does not take long before you are being blitzed on FB with so much stuff that you miss the best posts. Terry

I agree with you Terry but all my point about Facebook was it's so easy to just put "i'm off out in Borth tomorrow at 10 if anyone fancies tagging along" and it's seen by anyone on their friends list making it easy to just gear up and head off rather than having to look through the forums & posts on the off chance, i just thought it might have been another avenue to go down to get out a bit more with company

Not meant to be a criticism. One FB page often used for just this is:
The Kayak Anglers Meeting Place UK
