Beautiful Autumn Grayling - a bit of non kayak fishing , paddling IN the water instead of paddling ON the water I always look forward to Autumn and casting tiny dry flies across crystal clear Dee waters in front of free rising Grayling. Recent fishing has certainly not let me down. My size 16 squirrel hair flies that take about one and a half minutes to tie seem to have been to the Grayling's liking with plenty of good sized fish engulfing them with relish. At this time of year the Grayling sense winter is fast approaching and start to feed hard. lots of fish in the 1.5 to 1.75 pound mark gave excellent sport on my No.4 rod fighting strongly and even demonstrating their Grayling triple salchows very impressive ! I was very happy with this , my best one ,which weighed 2 lb 9 oz All fish carefully revived if handled , and sent back home. I unhook my barbless flies from most while they are still in the water without netting or touching them. I really love my Autumn Grayling fishing , Thanks CADAC, Fishing the Dee in Autumn is a joy to behold Fishing the Dee anytime is more precious than gold Enjoy your fishing Phil

You paint a really nice picture there Phil. It looks such a nice little spot and the fish look strong and healthy. I have only ever caught One grayling and that was a mistake as I was still after trout but as small as it was, it was certainly very enjoyable to catch. You do have some nice waters over there Phil----------------lucky man. I have had a session on the River Ancolme last week from the bank with the lures as overhanging trees and bushes make it impossible to use the fly gear. I have to say I really enjoyed myself with 4 pike and 2 perch in the bag, it was a great morning. I have decided to do a bank session every week because during the week there is nobody around so quiet and peaceful and not to rub it in Phil, I have the time Phil

Great report Phil and some fabulous fish & photos. Haven't caught a grayling for a few years, so just added another entry onto my 'to do' list

Thanks for the comments Phil, David, Eddie, Rob,
I highly recommend the Welsh Dee , from Llangollen and for many miles upstream of there . It is said to be one of the best Grayling rivers in Europe. Loads of stretches available on day ticket.
Small fly rod , 2 lb tippet and little dry flies is favourite. Best fishing is early and late - June to Aug and all day Sept to Oct. with wet fly nymphs/bugs all winter.
My son is a novice fly angler and caught 7 or 8 including one of 2 lb three weeks ago when we had a day at Corwen. He was well happy ! As with all river fishing the water level and clarity has to be right , so impromptu is best.
Cheers
Phil
