I spent the bank holiday weekend at my caravan in the hope the wind would die down enough for me to get out. It wasn't to be but I used my time on land in order to get some jobs done on the caravan and collect plenty of peelers. I was expecting the A55 to be slow going but what I wasn't expecting was a calm sea while Anglesey was still taking a battering so I waited patiently for the Llandulas turn off to kill a few hours. The one man launch across the boulders was soul destroying but I was afloat after 3 days of waiting. A new GPS without my marks in ment I'd have to spend sometime locating the rough ground but after a hour of paddling in circles it was nowhere to be seen and I was eager to just get a bait in the water and hopefully I would drift across it. A hour and plenty of dogfish later I decided finding the reef was a must even if I paddled until darkness to find it. Looking at my GPS track I'd missed it on the way out by yards. Ohwel I was on it now and first cast... Bass, only a small one but my first of the year and just goes to show its worth putting in the effort to find the fish. I had half a hour till darkness and caught a further 2 Bass of 47 and 48cm happy days.

Great result Shaun , that mark of yours always seems to hold a few bass. I need to get out for some peelers myself for some smoothhound fishing - was there plenty about ?

Great result Shaun , that mark of yours always seems to hold a few bass. I need to get out for some peelers myself for some smoothhound fishing - was there plenty about ? I used to drive over to Anglesey early morning, collect enough peeler to keep me going for a month, fish any softbacks in the Swillies for bass then off to see Malcolm at the tackle shop, a sleep for an hour or have a drive around a couple of venues to check them out then fish n chips and over to Molfre for a fishing session ( oh I love that place ) and finally the 3 hour+ drive home but not before I always filled up two 20lt containers of sea water as it was far better than the bisto gravy that runs in the Humber in order to keep the crab and various worms that were in the fridge in perfect order. Arrive home about 3am, just the thought of it would kill me now but it was about 14 years ago when I had free company fuel, eeee them were the days. Phil

There was plenty about where I was but my mate was looking 300 yards away and barely scraped a sessions worth together, very patchy but the wind and rain wasnt helping. My bucket was probably split 50/50 softies/peelers. If your just after smoothie bait then the big softie males are easy pickings this time of year, a few more weeks and it'll all be females.

Cheers Shaun
Went for a Tope session yesterday, but the weather window didn't quite work out as planned. Found a few softies this morning before the rain set in and I headed home.

Only just saw your message Phil, shame the weather didnt work out for you. I'm still waiting to get out for them, not even managed to get out on the boat for them yet. Going to have to take a few days off work when the weather opens up to make the most of it.
