This might sound strange David but I seem to recall being told many years ago that the tide flow never changes direction in the swellys up or down, perhaps Nala could confirm if this is right or possibly I am having one of my senior moments.

Tidal flow in the Menai Straits, flooding tide comes from the Brittania road Bridge, towards the Menai Suspension Bridge.
Ebbs from the Suspension towards the Brittania road Bridge.
Remember there are eddie's along the route, this is the reverse tidal flow swirl created just of the main flow which can be from a whirlpool to an area the size of a couple of football pitches + .
This changes as the tidal heights vary, between springs and neaps. Up to 8 + knots max.
Saw a guy in a sib using an electric motor utilising the eddy of the flooding tide to good effect.
Fishing in the main flow then a short blast of the motor to get into the eddy.
And then drifting back in the opposite direction.
Also there was a kayak angler out there and an sot paddling 😎 hmmmmm.
It was a lovely evening where I was fishing off the St Georges pier feeding the whiting and then the remnants to the crabs ! 😁
