I'm wondering about fitting an electric trolling motor to my Prowler elite. Ive spotted a fladen one that's cheap and apparently ok for saltwater or otherwise it's a minn kota saltwater model at more money, both offer around 40lb thrust. There seems to be a good choice of batteries around. I've emailed Ocean for advice about the saddle fitting where there are some threaded holes across the back storage box, but have had nothing back. Has anyone fitted a motor and how successful was it?
I love to paddle but I'd like to extend the range.

I have seen these motor's in action on the open sea and i do not rate them you need a battery half the size of your back well and as for getting your kayak in and out of the water this can be a pain in the arms /back cos if you launch at low water you have to carry all your stuff a long way. And what if the sea bows up when you are out you will have to come back in through the surf and we all know that is where you are most likely to fall out and all your gear The plus is that they work well on lakes and canals

Ah yes, I see what you mean. I haven't done any canal or lake yet, might one day, but I mainly use my kayak from the same place on the Ceredigion coast. Surf can get up quickly, I do have quite a distance to carry everything as well as a set of 20 concrete steps to get down. I'm thinking again, thanks.

Hi, I have a 40 lb thrust minn kota (not the saltwater ) which has been used almost every week for three years on my honda inflateable. It has enough power for me to cover miles of rocky bays.usually two trips! You would have plenty of power. I use large leisure batteries. 1st one purchased was squadron energy sfl 2 120( 120 is power output) This has a thread to take connections. Purchased 2nd battery from halfords 110 leisure as thought my first was failing to charge. It turned out to be charger not powerfull enough. 2nd battery normal car battery connection so I simply replaced the the minn kota saddles with large croc type clips. Works perfetly. Motor only beginning to show cosmetic age. Never any other probs. U need deep cycle battery. Car battery much weaker.Just weighed battery. It is 20 kg.Lighter than some loads I see on kayaks but still a lump on the back end. My son 30kg sits fine on the back.
