I have just invested in one of these (just waiting for it to arrive) but I cant decide where to position it. I currently have 2 places in mind but am willing to listen to the voice of experience also I am worried about the fixings to use John

Fit it in the most convenient place that wont be in the way for paddling or re-entry. If you can, put a backing plate behind the fixing plate or it could get ripped off !!

I don't know how securely that hatch cover/lid is on the BG, but personally I'd want any rod holder fixed to the actual hull, they do seem to take a fair bit of pressure, especially if you are lucky enough to hook something that pulls back Backing plate, nuts & bolts for me - didn't Kev get one ripped out earlier this year?

if you put both holders on the same side you will have a clutter free side for re-entering

You probably can work this out for yourself but when attaching using bolts do not drill the recommended hole size for your bolts. For example if you are using M6 (6mm) use size less ie 5mm hole. The s/s bolt will act like a self tapper and screw into the hole itslef helping you to get a better seal. Don't rely on this though as there is no real strength in such a bolt into plastic - only a better seal. Also you can use large washers as pseudo plates. Go for about 30mm but ensure they are for the bolts used eg M6 or whatever. www.stagonset.co.uk/ is a company selling s/s fittings in ones and twos at good prices compared to Holt at any chandlers. The latter are a rip-off and I bet you'll spend more money on the bolts that the rodholder.....unless you can 'find' some of course. ;D Cheers Gerry

i made this bracket to keep the rods out of the way and give you a bit more leg room when fishing and you can remove them when you want to i have just used self tappers they work well as you can see from the photo the rod holder will go before the self tappers pull out this is what happens when a big fish picks your bait up and runs with it when you are unhooking another nice fish or you can buy them of the hatter for a small charge

Pop in the CO-OP and get a cutting board about £3. Self tapers love it, even bolts will go into it and it is almost 1/2" thick you can cut any shape you like out of it.
