Hi all almost, very nearly, just about there now. ;D Hoping to go out on my first fishing trip this weekend although forecast looks terrible. (42mph winds) Anyway, I was just making sure everything was in order when I tried out my rod in rod rest. It fits in fine but it seems a loose fit. I've made up some rod leashes so not desperately worried about them falling out but just wondered if you guys do something to make it a better fit? I'm not keen on increasing diameter of rod but perhaps I could do something with the rod rest. Is it the norm to have wobbly rods behind you when paddling or do you think I should do something to improve things? Insert tubing perhaps? Any help/suggestions would be terrific. Cheers, Chris.

chris the ests are made a universal fit to allow for all the different types of rods boat spinning ect its no problem at all that rods are a loose fit in fact its a bit of a help if they were a tight fit then while turning around trying to get them free while out at sea could be dangerous the only time the loose fittings can be a problem is if you fall out and you then lose the rods in them most of the guys dont do anything we just leave the rods in them loosly but i think a small leash just to save them from being lost is a good idea a few of the guys use the springy keychains to help secure them just in case while coming in and out of the launch site .

Hi thurso Sorry to ask a daft question ,when you put your rod in do you slide it so the reel is half way down the holder and the reel sits on-top of the rod, which enables you to slide the safety tab across ,locking your rod in so it cant fall out. Also your rod should be loose to be able to get it easily.
cheers tony

Hi topcat, sorry if I'm wrong here, but by your description it sounds like you might be talking about a rod holder . I was talking about what I call the rod rests that are situated behind the seat. But you're right about them been loose enough so you can get your rods out easy. Ta for your post Tony.

Hi Thurso
Are you talking about flush fitting rod holders? if so, then all our rods are loose and we use leashes to safeguard our rods from being lost.
