Hi all,
Where is the best place to get kayak bits? I'm after self sealing screws and bungee attachments, paddle savers, anchor, attachments etc.
I have no internal access to my yak (Malibu 2) so I need some special screws, I have seen them in the States but not over here.
Any suggestions?

I've used stainless steel self tappers, seem fine. The anchor trolley in particular has taken a right mauling with none of them loosening.

Hi Mark,
The screws that I saw were surrounded in rubber and a bigger hole was required.
Are you saying that a stainless self tapping screw will be ok? Do I need a pilot hole? My yak is a plastic Malibu 2 and I need to fit a bungee retaining system at the front and a few other things too.
If the self tappers are ok then I will give it a go, I don't want to damage the kayak though.
Cheers

i have used self tappers for years on yaks and never had a problem using them i have never seen one pull out or fail . drill a pilot hole first then away you go .

although i agree with marc and zebra on the s/s self tappers i think narcan is also looking for info on "wellnuts". These links are one of many you will find on the internet www.rivetwise.co.uk/productrange/wellnut.htmwww.ondrives.com/products.asp?recnumber=725There was a deal once with family adventure store (FAS) who were prepared to offer small amounts of wellnuts in various sizes instead of having to buy the industrial packs of 100 pieces. Try them also: www.familyadventurestore.co.uk/An email to FAS maybe wise as they are aware of this issue and you might get the response you are looking for. All the best Narcan and hope to see you on water sometime with your souped-up Malibu.

Thanks guys,
It looks like self tappers are ok for non weight bearing and wellnuts are for more substantial loads.
I will let you know how I get on

Kayak DIY is quite theraputic in its own little way, you have got to sit there and really think about what you are going to do, you only get one chance and you want to get it right the first time!! ;D ;D ;D Looks a nice tidy job that, i like the malibu 2 theres plenty of room on there to put kit and like you have done, with the addition of some bungee cord you can strap it all down, always handy to have a few meters of that spare!! ;D Good to see the VHF on the pfd

Ta mate, The VHS on the buoyancy aid is there for a reason. No place for that in a dry sack. If I am parted from my craft and in the water I need my radio at hand...Its my life! I will also carry a w/p flare on my person too! I saw a thread on here all about that! Not been out yet, Somebody suggests the Inland Sea, might just give it a go in the morning!!?? As for the radio holder, I, and my colleagues use this firm and they are very reasonable. I have had discount on bigish orders in the past and they are fom Mersyside. www.connectstores.com/mc/sp_1055.htmlBest keep your radio on your person eh? And make sure it's waterproof! This one is good Chest Rig Radio Holder (RD6) and this one will fit any belt! (RD9) Universal Radio Holder
