Whilst in Decathlon at the weekend I saw a telescopic roach pole www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/telescopocket-4m-3407242/It is 4m but telescopes down to about 20 inches. I thought it would be ideal for messing on the kayak they were even giving away a pole rig free, bonus. That set me thinking perhaps this would double as a flag pole too. I could have it any length I wanted in increments of 20 inches. Problem one how to fix the flag? I got a 'spare reflective waistcoat from work and did a bit of cr*p sewing around the edge and then made two loops of bungee threaded top and bottom of the 'flag' These were done so I could tighten or loosen depending how long the pole was. Then came how to fix the pole? I already had four plumbing tubes cable tied to my box so these seemed ideal. But it was all a bit sloppy. I got some of the grey plumbing insulation and tapered tit down to fit into the tubing. This was then slid down the pole from the thin end. It then pushed snugly into the white tube nicely and stay firm. With it telescoping right down it packs away nicely for launch and landing. It's far from being a quality pole for fishing but ideal for a bit of fun. If you ar not using it as a flagpole how about a single feather droped down, you can fish with a 4m length of line to hand. Could even use it for gar or wrasse, that would be fun. I know the workmanship is less than perfect but for a useless diy'er it works.

Hi All I have made a flag pole from some plastic conduit and my wife made the flag out of a waste coat and stiched a tube down one of the seams this slides over the pole and is then fixed into position with 2 dome headed self taping screws the flag is rolled around the pole and held in place with a rubber band during transit
