Ok the second rod I thought I'd do a write up on is the one I probably use the most during the summer, I use it for feathering, spinning, plugging & light bait fishing etc its the Grauvell RC Bass Spin 702Heavy.
Originaly I was looking for a couple of rods for my daughters to spin for mackeral from the rocks at Pen-y-chain, Chloe was about 7yrs old, 4ft nothing and all my rods were too big for her to handle, at 7' & £40 these seemed ideal.
As mentioned they are 7' long and come in two equal sections, again ideal for the kayak or keeping in the car boot. Starting from the bottom there's a rubber button and a cork handle with an overall length of 15", the lower grip is only 7 1/2" with the forgrip being only 2 3/4" & sandwiched in the middle is Grauvells own fuji "type" reel seat. Again this is positioned the right way so your hand isn't holding the threaded section all day.
The rod has 8 eyes/guides, 7 on the top section & one on the lower, all whippings are black with a silver trim. The fittings are one area where costs are saved & I'd be the first to admit that I don't take the same care of my rods as I do my reels, this one has never been washed down in the last 2 1/2yrs and the guides are a little worse for wear, the lure keeper ring is badly rusted and needs replaced - but as i say this has not been helped by me!! ;D
I can only describe this rod in one word & thats FUN!! Its light & well balanced to use but surprisingly powerfull for its size! Sadly I haven't managed any monster bass on it (or any other rod ), but its landed lots of different species of fish from the kayak including a couple of thornies one of which was double figures!
I have it teamed up with a Daiwa TD Viento baitcasting reel, however when Chloe uses it she has a small spinning reel on it and to be honest I think it performs better with this but i prefer to use the baitcaster
Would I change anything? - For the money - no, I'd like better fittings etc but this would increase the price
Would I buy another?- Definitely, but I'd like to try the trigger grip for the baitcaster, alternatively there is an upgraded (more expensive) Grauvell model or alternatively the Daiwa Tournament Bass Rod 7', but these both have RRP of more than £120 so different animals altogether.
Don't worry, less than a week till I can get out again so I'll stop boring you all soon!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
