Hi folks, how's the fishing? I've just bought myself a proper roof rack from after using the "handirack" inflatable for some time. The handirack served me well but needed something more permanent. Anyway, I was wondering whether any use some form of padding to protect the kayak? Or do you simply put it straight on? Any info on this subject much appreciated. Chris.

If 'pipe lagging' is what I think it is, I buy a similar product at the local WalMart. Here we call them 'Water Noodles' and they are a children's toy. The closed cell foam is VERY UV resistant and they will outlast a couple sets of cable ties.....we call them 'tie wraps' To install, I slit the tube lengtwise and wrap about the cross piece. The cost is about 4$ US for 1.5meters.

Newbie Most cable ties that are sold now are UV resistant also Low smoke and fume with self extinguishing properties but we wont go into that ;D ;D and there cheap enough. I think the pipe lagging is better than the noodle as it is already designed to wrap over something but the noodle is solid.

hi newbie pipe lagging is the same type of stuff but its used to put around water pipes it stops them freezing in the winter it already has a cut in it and the center has a pre cut round shape so it goes over the pipes .

I use pipe laggin held in place with tie-wraps then I've wrapped the whole lot with Gaffer tape. This stops it twisting, vibrating in the wind and makes it more durable.

I bought proper bar pads by YAK. Easy to put on without removing the bar, look great and worth every penny of the £14 I paid.
