I have joined Peninsula Paddlers Canoe Club on the Wirral. It's a long story but I've been drafted into my lads sea scout group as a kayak instructor, but need to get my badges before I can teach the lads. The club is very well organised and efficient and are looking at putting a VHF course on. The cost will be £100 and is open to non memebers of the club. The prospective dates are Sunday 14th and Sunday 21st January. PM me for more details if you are interested.

Here's the details: Looks like there is a typo as there is no "Sat 15th Jan" ,maybe 13th? I'll get that checked.
Course in the Use of VHF Radio
Several members have asked whether the club would arrange for a course in the use of VHF radio, and so I have made some provisional arrangements – see details below.
v The course would only run if there were a sufficient number of people willing to attend – minimum of 6.
v Length of course is 8 hours – all on 1 day.
v Price is £80 per person. This includes the cost of the licence (£22.00,) hire of a simulated VHF radio (£70.00 per day,) provision of a user instruction handbook and accommodation for the day.
v Provisional dates at the moment are either Saturday 15th January or Sunday 21st January.
v The course is open to anyone wanting to gain the licence, so people who are not in the club could attend. If you know of others who might be interested, please let them know.
v Obviously the instructor for this course cannot keep the dates open indefinitely, so if you are interested please let me know by November 28th

i've just PM'd sarge to tell him to put my name on the list -although i am familiar with radio proceedure through books and practise i do not have the paper to prove it and if a few of us go from our forum then what better than to go with a load of mates and make a day of it.

Had a chat with the canoe club secretary tonight and the course is on for 21st January as there are already 6 or 7 club members who have booked in. The course will be held at the sailing school at the north end of West Kirby Marina. Those who want to join in PM me your name, address, e-mail, phone nos and I will pass them on. They want a £20 deposit, as you'd expect, when booking an external instructor and a room, they have to cover themselves, but we'll deal with that later - probably a cheque direct to the canoe club.
