Having thought carefully after this course, and having read George's post, I think I need a proper call sign. Similar to Georges, I think i'm going to use " Kayak TimO 1" for all future meets. Maybe everybody, with a VHF, should think off a call sign to stick too. We could even add it to the meet the members list for everybody to familiarise. What you think Admin?
Cheers
Tim

Sorry Tim- missed replying to your point about adding call signs to the 'meet the members section' . The call sign as i mentioned earlier could be nicely tied in with your free registration of your boat under the MCA ( Coastguard) CG66 registration scheme which we should all do. Its straightforward , free and in the event of a problem save a great deal of time for all concerned in trying to help you. Our call sign is the recognition name of our boat under proper radio procedure- so Tim has a good point - i agree that it should be on our meet the members section.

Even with the benefit of the course, when I eventually get a radio and use it to talk to the coastgaurd, I'm sure I'll b@lls it up with Roger's, over n out, 10-4 good buddy and such like.
