Martin have a word with Zebra ( Terry) he has a Kaafu which he uses regularly off Angelsey and is happy with it. Not sure where you are but he lives in Skelmersdale you could perhaps see him when he next goes out and have a try. There is no substitute for trying first. £500 is a reasonable amount, keep your eye open Autumn is often the time for a bargain second hand set-up.

Worth joining the BCU (British Canoe Union).
For your £37 per year subscription you will get 10% discount in lots of kayak shops, not to mention your waterways license for the canals and rivers.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and I'm not 100% sure if this is the right place to post but I am about to take the plunge and get myself a sit on top kayak for fishing. It looks right up my street. I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos and reading a lot of advice on here but it still a little confusing on what would be the best method of starting. Today I went to local(ish) kayak shop in Stockport and looked around for either a Big Game or Prowler but they didn't have any in. The assistant at the shop (very friendly) recommended a Triumph 13. I did have a sit in and it felt comfy enough for the short time I stayed there. There were two other boats a Huntsman and Prowler (second hand £375) but they didn't seem as comfy as the Triumph. Has anyone else used this kayak before? The story I was told is that they are new for 2012, British manufactured and selling very well. With them being so new not sure if you guys know of this yak? I have received a quote from them for the boat, dry suit, PFD, paddle and roof rack all just over £1k mark. My question is, should I just grab the gear and have a few practice paddles to get used to it or is there anywhere else I should go first to get more advice? I live in Warrington Cheshire so not to close to the sea but I think I could find some reasonable water to practice on if I get the gear. I still need to look at getting a trolley, boots, radio, flares etc. Does anyone have a list of minimum essentials by any chance? My goal is to fish around Porth Dafarch Beach, Anglesey as I camp near there (Valley of the Rock) with my family a lot. In fact it was probably one of you lot I saw out fishing on a kayak that’s started me down this road ;D Thanks in advance, Neil PS here is a link to the kayak www.perception.co.uk/product/index/products/sit_on_top/triumph_13/triumph_thirteen/

Neil,
Hang around for a little we have a few menbers from the NW. Indeed the main man here is from Skelmersdale. My advice is to try one or two on the water before comitting yourself. You cannot judge a kayak by trying on a shop floor.
I am sure there will be an opportunity to try one of the lads boats. The biggest mistake you can make is to buy in haste, many of us did that, myself included, and then end up buying another yak 6 months down the line.
One thing I will say is that dealers always say the best yak you can buy is the one they have in stock when you go in.
Good luck mate.

Hi Terry, Thanks for a quick response Sound advice, I can understand how easy it would be to get the wrong yak, so many to choose from. It can be an expensive mistake otherwise. I will hold off for now on the yak but carry on with the research in to the peripheral gear, suits, seats, trolley etc. Again thanks for the reply. Neil.

Hey up all, hope your well. Just joined and am wondering when the nwext meet is and where. Scouring the net for a boat but having been out a couple of times with a mate using his sons prowler, now totally confused as to wich would suit me best. Some grand articles and great to read so much about the coast around North Wales. All best

hi. this is my first posting, just bought a new torque electric trident 13 from the boat show, and only had negative comments, like its not a proper yak if you dont paddle it,but for the record, how many of us are fishermen who use a yak,i dont know any serious yak people who fish, just getting it rigged at the moment, all that money and not a rod holder anywhere?,if it goes anything like my trident 11,i will be happy, what do you think about electric could they be a blessing or a curse, and do you think they might be allowed in matches, not as though i like matches,i think you have enough competition from the fish, hoping to get up stranraer in the next two weeks,so will let you know how it goes,if there are any meets going off i would like to know, and, let others give it a try. regards steve.
