A lot of you know that for a while now I have been working as a consultant on a brand new fishing kayak which has been specifically designed for the uk fishing waters this is the first kayak which has been specifically designed for the uk waters
The finished kayak is about 6/8 weeks away from being in the shops but I thought I would share the first photos with you.
These photos are not the actual finished kayak they are the plug from which the mould will be made then from that mould the kayaks will be made this process will mean that all the dimensions will shrink a little for that reason the plug is made slightly larger than the finished kayak.
All the fixtures and fittings are fitted lastly so this is just the bare kayak.
The finished kayak will have 3 hatches /rod holders ect .
The outline brief when this kayak was first discussed was a very fast /stable/dry kayak With useful storage.
Here is the kayak going through some speed tests
You can clearly see here the defined lines on the hull this will give excellent stability
The overall view notice the tank well is very different from any other tank well.
In time a full top with a hatch will be available for this tank well which will mean the tank well can also double as a fish keeping area. as well as an assortment of rear specially made crates
From this picture you can see very little wake and water drag from the rear of the kayak so as a bonus it will be a quiet kayak on the water
Time to show the stability of the plug well as you can see James is standing up here nothing special about that but notice he is standing on one side of the kayak not in the centre balancing his weight . all his weight is on the same side footwall so this is a very stable kayak
This is james showing off now ;D one foot on one side of the kayak .why does it not tip up it’s the secondary stability kicking in
This is the plug being finished in the workshop notice the gun well shape
This is amongst other things is to aid forward paddling
The rear shape is a bit special too see the tank well shape
In the cockpit the seat is slightly raised which should give a very dry ride the seat position is also quite low this adds to the stability and the low profile centre console will not hinder your day its just big enough to be useful but no to big as it takes over the cockpit
This is only the plug but with all the fixtures and fittings fitted to the finished kayak and a few surprises yet to be shown ;D this promises to be a top kayak
We will have the first proto types in a few weeks and I will give a little more detailed info then and a few more photos
