what PFD do you use and is there a reason you chose that particular one .we are trying to see what the most popular one is a well known PFD manufacturer has asked that i ask this question if there is a pattern that emerges he will make a new PFD for next season with the best bits that we suggest on it he will also put the n.w.k.f. logo on it for us .

I am using a Gul 50N PFD, Being ignorant when I bought it, I now feel I have made the wrong choice. When out in the yak the PFD rises up and rubs under my chin. Also I find that I am doing the velcro straps up very tight around my waist in order to stop this happening. O for a new PFD

there is talk of making a pfd with a mesh back and all the buyancy will be around the middle with a rubber grip on the inside to stop it riding and just straps for over your sholders so it should be very compfy and not ride so much but there is a problem with the number of pockets at the moment but thats being worked on i know a lot of manufacturers are aware of certain problems with some current pfds and are looking for soloutions for next year .

Although I like my pfd I think I will need to invest in one of the models with the smaller shoulder straps because mine keeps coming up round my ears ;D ;D

I use the Explorer Delta, in my very limited experience it seems to work just fine, a couple more pockets would be nice but the existing 3 suffice, doesn't seem to ride up but that could just be because I is too fat ;D ;D If they put all the floaty stuff up front it will be more comfortable when you are seated but would it make re-entry more difficult?

I got the palm on-tour pfd it fits well with lots of adjustment on side and shoulder straps and doesn't ride up when sat paddling, Its yellow witch is easy to see when i am on the water and has 2 mesh zipped pockets on the front. Its a 50N pfd, iam 15 stone and bobup like a cork when doing re-entry drill, so it does what it says on the tin...10/10

Zeb
I have seen the PFD's with a mesh back. They look really good, only a small floatation panel is used at the back, up the top by the neck. which has to be more comfy.

Yak, Koast. Had to cut a small D off the bottom of the back piece of foam so it would fit over my backrest. I have managed to utilise it's features for my needs, plenty of arm movement and comfortable enough. However, for all the time i'm intending being in the drink, if there was one available that was loose plenty of pockets and you inflated it when in the water or when you thought you were in bother i'd have one of them.

I've got Yak Kallistas....cheap and cheerful, but no decent pockets though (my only complaint)

Pockets are good to have, but wouldn't they obstruct a re entry attempt, especially if they were low down on the front of the PFD?
