It was very nice to meet again with all the lads!
I arrived on Saturday afternoon. By 4.30 pm I was ready to go in the water. The sea was very calm. It was at low tide.
There were no other kayaks on the water but there were 4 boats.
Three were fishing for bass and one for mackerel on spoons.
Until 6.30 nobody had any fish but the boat fishing for the mackerel - they had 5-6 makes.
I tried for the bass on plugs and for the bream but blanked.
I think the reason was a big seal chasing the fish close to shore.
It must've spooked the fish
Anyway I had a good paddle and finished with a beautiful sunset views:
I was up early at first light the next morning. A guy with a nickname Tomcat (as I remember) was getting ready on his P13.
He went in before me as I had a chat with Kevin who spend the night in his van and had a cup of coffee before setting up for the beach on foot as the water was very low - just past low tide.
At 8 am I was at the beach. The sea was very calm - the calmest I have launched in so far.
The tomcat had some mackerels and a bream 500 yards out and was just coming inshore to fish for the bass on surface lures.
He was drifting across the reef with the tide ( flowing quite fast by now ) and by the time I joined him he already had a nice bass on a Rap ala Storm Thunder dog lure:
I tried to do the same with a Rap ala Skitter Pop and Maria chase lures.
I couldn't get a bite while the tomcat had one more bass.
All I caught is him with the bass on camera ;D
After half an hour the bites stopped.
Then everybody joined the show -Topcat, KickingK, Kevin, George(spud), Chris (Ferox) with whom I did the VHF radio course and several others whose names escape me now - sorry guys!
As you know from topcat's and Mark's reports after the short morning action which we missed, for the rest of the day the fishing was slow but I had another wonderful kayak fishing experience in the company of great guys.
See you soon on the water!
